Rob Gould - China - Reviews

you have to admire Rob not only for his musical ability here - which is very good - but also for his ability to have produced a soundtrack album that is listenable as a stand alone piece in itself.

the film in guestion is Gavin Newman's documentary Beneath the Wall, and Rob's work reflects the grandeur and atmosphere of caving in China.

Musically the pieces are moody rather than dramatic, with gentle motion and changing textures giving the music momentum.

Helped out by former Fula colleagues Fiona, Jason and Nigel, he allows them to interpret his music to great effect, as he does Strangefish's Paul O'Neill on a keyboard solo and a superbly chilling violin passage from Julian Gregory.

This is the way to make music that borders on prog and electronica!
